Ruby Walsh comes from a fine National Hunt dynasty. He is the son of the former amateur champion jockey Ted Walsh, and came to prominence by winning the English Grand National at his first attempt, in 2000, on a horse trained by his father. Since then he's the only jockey to have won all four of the home Grand Nationals (in 2004-5 he won three in one season, only narrowly losing the Scottish National by a short head). He has ridden over 1400 winners to date, including 1000 Irish winners, and the Irish jump jockey's title on six occasions. He rides for two powerful stables: Willie Mulllins in Ireland and Paul Nicholls in England (for whom he's won the Cheltenham Gold Cup twice on Kauto Star, having ridden 24 winners at Cheltenham over the years). Walsh is a charming much-loved Irish sports personality, and here he opens up on life in the Walsh dynasty, and life under Paul Nicholls.
